Camp HorseAbility

The Best Week Of The Year

Camp HorseAbility is a week-long riding, learning, and fun-filled day camp for individuals with special needs. The camp benefits each and every camper with a unique experience that brings together all the wonderful attributes of a typical day camp in an equine-centered, therapeutic environment. Our takes place annually at the end of August (Mon. – Fri.) from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily at The Thomas School of Horsemanship in Melville.

Each day of camp brings a fun and exciting theme such as Pirate/Princess Day, Decades Day, Pajama Day that coordinates with they day’s special activity. Some of the events may include a circus performance, DJ / dancing, horse show, karaoke sing-along, karate, or yoga. The week concludes with a Family Fun Day & BBQ! All activities are individually tailored to meet the special needs of the camper and are offered in an encouraging and safe atmosphere, with success and fun as our guiding principles.

The environment encourages each camper in a positive and patient manner specifically designed to strengthen not only the equestrian abilities, but also the physical, social and emotional capacities of our campers. Groups are formed based on age, gender, and ability in order to provide the most rewarding social interactions. Our extensive staffing needs, two staff/volunteers per camper, limits admittance to the program to 90 campers.

Transportation and lunch are provided by the parent/guardian.

To secure a space in the camp, you are encouraged to apply to as early as possible. New Campers must go through our new participant screening process to be accepted for camp. Forms available on Quick Links page.
